ADC Reference Voltage Selection
The reference voltage defines the top of the ADC's input range: code = Vin / Vref x 2^N, so a smaller reference spreads the same code range over a smaller span and increases voltage resolution. Choosing between the supply rail, an internal bandgap reference, and an external reference trades range against accuracy and supply-noise immunity.
