Angular Differential Fragmentation Cross Sections of a 400 MeV/nucleon Oxygen-16 Beam on Graphite (FOOT)

The FOOT experiment measures angular differential and elemental fragmentation cross sections for He through N fragments (2<=Z<=7) produced when a 400 MeV/nucleon oxygen-16 beam strikes a graphite target, using a Start Counter, drift-chamber Beam Monitor, and a Delta-E/time-of-flight scintillator wall to identify fragment charge and emission angle. Learners study how these light-ion nuclear-interaction data, resolved for the first time in angle thanks to 100x higher statistics, benchmark FLUKA and Geant4 transport models and improve dose predictions for particle therapy and space radioprotection.
