Anisotropic Raman Identification of Crystal Orientation in 2M-WS2

How angle- and polarization-dependent Raman spectroscopy determines the in-plane crystal orientation of the low-symmetry 2M phase of tungsten disulfide and the twist angle between stacked layers. First-principles calculations assign the phonon modes and predict which Raman peaks are anisotropic, and the measured intensity-versus-angle patterns, validated against transmission-electron-microscopy images, act as an optical fingerprint of lattice orientation for this candidate topological superconductor.
