Bare-Root Hedging Whips Planted in Winter Make a Dense Hedge Cheaply

Plant hawthorn, beech or hornbeam whips November–February at 30–60 cm apart in one row, or in a staggered double row with rows about 45 cm apart for a thicker hedge; cut hawthorn and blackthorn back by about a third after planting to make them bush out low.
