Bond Energy-Length Scaling Index for H-O Bond Flexibility in Water
An empirical scaling law E_H = d_H^{-m} that ties the H-O covalent bond's energy to its length through a single index m (calibrated to m = 2.3683 from bulk water and the dangling H-O bond). Students learn how one index correlates bond length, bond energy, vibrational-frequency shift, oxygen O 1s core-level shift, and the O:H nonbond length, turning Raman/IR phonon spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy into in situ probes of how the hydrogen bond relaxes and flexes under perturbation.
