The construction and non-Abelian braiding of Majorana-like zero modes (classical-wave analogs of Majorana zero modes) that are localized at the boundary of a topologically modulated lattice, such as a vortex-texture Kekule-modulated graphene realized in photonic or acoustic crystals. Central concerns are the topological protection of these zero-dimensional modes (for boundary modes, by the Zak phase of the adjacent one-dimensional states), their tunable positioning, and the rules governing how exchanging them transforms the degenerate mode space.
