Brake-by-Wire

In a brake-by-wire system the pedal is a sensor input, not a direct hydraulic actuator: an ECU reads stroke and force, decides the braking demand, and commands electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical actuators — enabling regen blending, with a mechanical fallback path for failures. Toyota's ECB was the first production implementation.
