Brake Fastener Torque Specifications

Every brake fastener has a spec because clamping force, not tightness feel, keeps parts located: Gen 4 Prius caliper slide bolts ~25 ft-lb, caliper bracket bolts ~79 ft-lb front, and lug nuts 76 ft-lb tightened in a star pattern in stages. Under-torque backs out; over-torque stretches bolts and warps hats — both are brake failures.
