Candidal Vulvovaginitis Presentation and Diagnosis in Microbiology

Candidal vulvovaginitis is a fungal vaginosis in which Candida overgrowth, promoted by predisposing factors that raise available glucose or hormonal exposure (diabetes mellitus, oral contraceptives, pregnancy), produces a characteristic clinical and microscopic picture: fiery-red cervical inflammation, white leukorrheal discharge, intense itching, and pseudohyphae on wet mount. This reflects the broader microbiological classification of vaginoses into fungal, bacterial, and protozoal categories within the discipline of gynecologic microbiology.
