Closed-Loop Stability

A feedback loop is stable when all closed-loop poles lie in the left half-plane; raising loop gain moves poles toward the imaginary axis, producing ringing, then sustained oscillation at the stability limit, then divergence. Dead time erodes stability margin faster than any other process feature.
