Computational Grids for Resource Sharing in Distributed Computing

Introduces the computational grid: a hardware and software infrastructure that delivers dependable, consistent, pervasive, and inexpensive access to high-end computing by pooling geographically distributed resources. Using an analogy with the electric power grid, it establishes the defining requirements of grid infrastructure and surveys five major classes of grid applications: distributed supercomputing, high-throughput, on-demand, data-intensive, and collaborative computing.
