Cross-National Study of Higher-Education Students' Perceptions of Generative AI
A mixed-methods survey of 1211 higher-education students in Northern Ireland and India measuring awareness and attitudes toward generative AI. Quantitative Likert ratings are reduced via exploratory factor analysis and regressed on institution, subject area and gender; free-text comments are mined with RoBERTa sentiment scoring and SetFit aspect-based sentiment analysis. Key findings: perceptions vary by institution but converge for Computer Science students regardless of institution, prior experience predicts attitudes, and gender shows no effect once institution and subject area are controlled, with meaningful interactions among the factors shaping experience.
