The dynamic range is the span of template concentrations over which Cq stays linear in log input, and the limit of detection is the lowest copy number detected in at least 95% of replicates. Near the LOD, Poisson sampling of a few template molecules dominates replicate scatter, so Cq variance rises sharply and quantification degrades to presence/absence.
