Electrophoretic Protein Transfer
An electric field perpendicular to the gel drives SDS-protein complexes out of the polyacrylamide onto a membrane, where they bind by hydrophobic and electrostatic interaction. Large proteins need longer, cooled wet transfer with reduced methanol, while small proteins can blow through the membrane unless a 0.2 um pore size or shorter semi-dry run is used.
