Endpoint Rules for Axiomatic Aggregation of Interval Judgments in Social Choice

A model in which each member of a community reports a bounded interval of the real line representing the actions they consider acceptable, and these individual intervals are aggregated into a single community standard. Endpoint rules aggregate the lower and upper endpoints separately—taking the p-th lowest lower endpoint and the q-th highest upper endpoint—so the result is always a well-defined interval, with extreme tolerance and the median rule as special cases. Students learn how normative axioms (responsiveness, anonymity, continuity, neutrality, strategyproofness) can uniquely characterize a family of aggregation methods.
