Energy-Spectral Efficiency Trade-off Optimization in Distributed Massive MIMO Networks
In distributed (cell-free) massive MIMO, spectral efficiency and energy efficiency conflict once fronthaul and distributed signal-processing power are counted alongside transmit power. This wireless-networking result jointly optimizes uplink power control and binary access-point-to-user association as a mixed-integer nonlinear program, solved by continuous relaxation plus fractional programming with a quadratic transform in an alternating-optimization loop, and shows energy efficiency is non-monotonic in access-point and user density.
