Epigastric Artery Blood Supply to the Anterolateral Abdominal Wall in Anatomy

The anterolateral abdominal wall receives its arterial blood supply through the superior and inferior epigastric arteries, which arise respectively from the internal thoracic artery (via the musculophrenic branch point) and the external iliac artery, and anastomose within the rectus sheath to form a continuous vascular circuit. This anastomotic arrangement between two separate arterial sources illustrates the principle of collateral circulation supplying the abdominal wall musculature.
