Femur Anatomy

In human anatomy, the femur (thigh bone) is organized into proximal, shaft, and distal regions, each bearing named bony landmarks that correspond to articulation sites or muscle/ligament attachment points: the spherical head articulates with the acetabulum at the hip joint, the neck connects head to shaft and bears the greater and lesser trochanters, and the distal condyles (medial and lateral) articulate with the tibial condyles to form the knee joint. This concept belongs to skeletal/osteological anatomy, and its significance lies in the general anatomical principle that bone surface features (tubercles, lines, crests, fossae, condyles) exist to mediate joint articulation or serve as defined attachment sites for specific ligaments and muscles.
