The CMS detector's superconducting solenoid magnetizes a 10,000-ton steel flux-return yoke. Flux loops wound around yoke cross-sections register induced voltages during magnet ramps and fast discharges; integrating these voltages over time yields the magnetic flux density in the steel. This concept covers isolating the eddy-current contribution during fast discharges so the flux-loop data can validate the 3D computer model of the magnet with higher precision.
