Forced Witloof Chicory Roots Grow Blanched Chicons in Warm Darkness
Lift witloof chicory roots in November, trim leaves to about 2.5 cm, pot them upright and keep them in total darkness at 10–15 °C; tight blanched chicons are ready in about 3–4 weeks. Light turns them green and bitter.
