Fourfold Pathogen Reference Ontology Suite Extending the Infectious Disease Ontology
A suite of four pathogen-specific reference ontologies that extend the Infectious Disease Ontology (IDO) as intermediate hub-and-spoke layers: the Virus (VIDO), Bacteria (BIDO), Mycosis/fungal (MIDO), and Parasite (PIDO) Infectious Disease Ontologies. Each is grounded in the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) top-level standard, authored in OWL 2, and validated with automated reasoners. By factoring out the classes and relations common to each pathogen class into a shared reference layer between IDO and specialized application ontologies, the suite improves modularity, ontology quality, and reuse across the OBO Foundry infectious-disease ecosystem.
A Fourfold Pathogen Reference Ontology Suite (VIDO, BIDO, MIDO, PIDO)
This paper introduces a suite of four pathogen-specific reference ontologies that extend the Infectious Disease Ontology (IDO): the Virus (VIDO), Bacteria (BIDO), Mycosis/fungal (MIDO), and Parasite …
