German Industrial Design Principles Applied to Software Development in Python and JavaScript
Dieter Rams' ten principles of good design, developed for physical industrial products, are domain-general criteria that can be applied as a framework to software design: good design is innovative, useful, aesthetic, understandable, unobtrusive, honest, long-lasting, thorough down to the last detail, environmentally friendly, and "as little design as possible". Applied to software, they translate into criteria for features, usability, code quality, documentation, flexibility, transparency, stability, efficiency, and simplicity. This belongs to design theory and software engineering, connecting industrial design philosophy with software design concerns such as maintainability, user experience, and the KISS principle.
