Google Maps Ranking Factors in Local SEO

Local SEO, a branch of search engine optimization within digital marketing, aims for high placement in the map-based local pack. Ranking there depends on a prioritized set of factor buckets. The Google Business Profile carries the most weight: primary category, keyword in the real business name, location, secondary categories, and profile completeness. After it come review rating and quantity, on-page website signals, backlink quality, and citations (consistent Name-Address-Phone mentions). Location works through three mechanisms: being inside the city's borders, closeness to the city center as Google defines it, and proximity to the searcher. Several tactics people commonly believe in (keyword-stuffed descriptions, geotagged photos, profile posts, padded service areas) have no ranking effect.
