Heeling In Keeps Bare-Root Plants Alive Until Soil Is Plantable
Lay plants at an angle in a trench in the best-drained spot and cover the roots with at least 20 cm of soil; if the ground is frozen, keep them in a frost-free shed with roots wrapped in moist compost or straw, and plant within a few weeks.
