Hepatitis A Transmission, Diagnosis, and Prevention in Pathology

Hepatitis A is a self-limited, acute viral hepatitis transmitted by the fecal-oral route with a two-to-six-week incubation period, presenting with nausea, vomiting, right upper quadrant pain, and jaundice, and diagnosed by anti-HAV IgM antibody. It is defined by its acute, non-chronic clinical course—distinguishing it from hepatitis B, C, and D—though it can cause a relapsing course and severe or fulminant disease in elderly patients or those with pre-existing liver disease.
