Pathological states of the parathyroid and adrenal glands are defined by dysregulation in calcium homeostasis and catecholamine production mediated through specific endocrine feedback loops. Hyperparathyroidism is characterized by elevated serum calcium, low phosphate, and excess PTH driven by primary glandular pathology or secondary renal failure mechanisms, whereas hypoparathyroidism results from diminished hormone secretion causing neuronal hyperexcitability. In the adrenal cortex, Conn syndrome manifests as aldosterone-mediated electrolyte imbalances leading to hypertension and metabolic alkalosis, while pheochromocytomas in the medulla cause episodic sympathetic overactivity via excess catecholamine release; additionally, neuroblastoma represents a pediatric tumor of neural crest origin exhibiting Homer-Wright rosettes.
