Hybrid Monte Carlo Simulation of SU(2)/Z2 Yang-Mills with Dynamical 't Hooft Flux
This work simulates the SU(2)/Z2 Yang-Mills theory on the lattice with the discrete 't Hooft flux treated as a dynamical degree of freedom. Students learn how promoting the 2-form flux to a dynamical variable dramatically reduces the Monte Carlo autocorrelation of the topological charge, curing topological freezing, why SU(N)/ZN simulations can substitute for SU(N) in the large-volume limit, and how fundamental quarks might be incorporated in this framework.
