Incontinence Care

Incontinence care means managing bladder or bowel leakage with absorbent products, scheduled toileting, and meticulous skin care — while treating the person's embarrassment as seriously as the mess. Change soiled products promptly, cleanse and fully dry the skin, and apply barrier cream, because urine and stool break skin down within hours and broken perineal skin invites both pressure injury and infection. Track patterns; timed toileting before the usual accident window often reduces episodes dramatically. New or suddenly worsening incontinence is a symptom, not an inevitability of age — report it to a clinician, as it can signal infection or medication effects.
