Interactionalism: Designing Higher Learning Around Large Language Model Agents

A design framework and set of heuristics for higher education in the era of generative-AI dialogical agents. It defines 'interactional intelligence' -- a set of meta-cognitive and meta-emotional skills for learning and thinking together with LLM-based agents -- as a new competency to cultivate, and prescribes pedagogical moves, dialogical-grammar patterns, and institutional redesigns through which structured interaction with LLM agents helps learners develop those skills, positioned against standardized one-shot individual assessment. It is offered as a blueprint for the practice of learning alongside GenAI rather than a theory of learning.
