IP Address as a Host Identifier

An IP address names one network interface on one host, and the network layer's entire contract is to carry a packet from the interface that sent it to the interface named as its destination. It says nothing about which program on that host should receive the bytes. After this Concept a student can read an IP address as a host-level name, and can state exactly what host-to-host delivery does and does not promise.
