JPEG Compression
JPEG transforms each 8×8 pixel block with a discrete cosine transform, then quantizes the coefficients with a table that discards high-spatial-frequency detail the eye barely sees; nearly all the (lossy) compression happens in that quantization step, not in the entropy coding after it.
