Layered Network Protocol Stack and Its Service Boundaries

Network functionality is split into stacked layers, each using the service of the layer beneath and adding its own guarantee, so that a weakness left unrepaired at one layer becomes the next layer's responsibility. After learning this a student can place a named protocol at its layer and say which layer must handle a given failure.
