Layers of the Heart Wall in Cardiac Histology

This concept covers the histological organization of the heart wall in cardiac histology, defining its three tissue layers: the epicardium (outer visceral layer of the pericardium, composed of mesothelium over adipose and connective tissue), the myocardium (the cardiac muscle layer responsible for contraction), and the endocardium (inner squamous epithelial lining over a supporting connective tissue layer). It also introduces the heart's fibrous skeleton, dense connective tissue that serves as the muscular insertion point and electrically isolates the atria from the ventricles, delaying impulse conduction between atrial and ventricular contraction.
