Layers of the Skin from Epidermis to Hypodermis in Histology

This concept covers the histology of the skin, defining its three major layers (epidermis, dermis, hypodermis) and, in particular, the structure and cellular composition of the epidermis. It establishes the epidermis as an avascular, stratified squamous epithelium of ectodermal origin composed chiefly of keratinocytes, along with melanocytes, Merkel cells, and Langerhans cells, and organized into five sequential maturation strata (basale, spinosum, granulosum, lucidum, corneum) that reflect a continuous bottom-to-top turnover process.
