Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) for Perovskite Solar Panels

The levelized cost of electricity, or LCOE, is the price of each unit of energy a panel makes over its whole life. In plain form, LCOE = lifetime cost / lifetime energy. Lifetime cost is everything you pay: panels, racks, wiring, labour and upkeep. Lifetime energy is every kilowatt-hour the system makes before it is replaced. Two things push LCOE down. Higher efficiency means fewer panels, racks and hours of labour for the same power. Longer life means more energy from each panel you paid for. Try a simple case. Panel A costs 100 and makes 10 units a year for 10 years: 100 / 100 = 1 per unit. Panel B costs 150 and makes 10 units a year for 30 years: 150 / 300 = 0.5 per unit. The dearer panel wins. Real LCOE also counts slow power loss each year and the time value of money, but the logic is the same. This is why the T80 lifetime matters so much for perovskites. A cheap panel that fades fast can still lose. It is also why tandems aim at higher efficiency, while single-junction perovskites aim at low cost and low weight. After this Concept you can work out a simple LCOE for two panels and say whether cost, efficiency or lifetime is deciding the result.
