Management of Molluscum Contagiosum in Dermatology

Molluscum contagiosum management centers on the principle that benign, self-limited viral skin lesions generally require watchful observation rather than active intervention, since spontaneous resolution is expected over a period of months. This concept belongs to dermatology and distinguishes between conservative management (reassurance, education, and hygiene counseling to prevent contact and auto-inoculation spread) and active treatment modalities (curettage, topical vesicant application, or cryotherapy) reserved for symptomatic, cosmetically bothersome, or non-resolving cases, including immunocompromised patients in whom spontaneous clearance is unlikely.
