Map-Based Geo-Spatial Reasoning Evaluation of Foundation Models

How the geo-spatial reasoning of large language and vision-language models is measured across textual, tool/API-based, and visual map tasks. Students learn what capabilities map-based reasoning demands (spatial relationships, navigation, route and travel planning), how a multiple-choice benchmark isolates these across many cities and countries, and why current foundation models lag well behind humans on distance, direction and route reasoning.
