Mechanically Actuated Soliton Microcombs for Coherent Dual-Comb Spectroscopy and Low-Noise Microwave Generation

An architecture that uses piezoelectric mechanical actuation of ultrahigh-Q crystalline microresonators to control dissipative Kerr soliton microcombs. Rapid resonance tuning lets two separate resonators be pumped by a single shared laser, producing mutually coherent dual-soliton combs with independently adjustable repetition rates, and lets solitons be generated directly from a sub-hertz-linewidth ultrastable laser, cutting the phase noise for photonic microwave generation while reducing the complexity of soliton generation and stabilization.
