Modular Production of the Qin Terracotta Army in Chinese Art History

This concept covers modular production, a manufacturing principle in Chinese art history in which standardized component parts (originally developed for ritual bronze casting) are mass-produced and then combined and individually modified to create large quantities of complex, seemingly unique finished objects. It is illustrated through its application beyond bronze vessels to architectural systems and, most extensively, to large-scale ceramic sculpture production. This belongs to Chinese art history and the study of pre-imperial-to-imperial technological/artistic production systems.
