The molecular ion (M+•) is the intact molecule minus one electron, and its m/z gives the compound's nominal or monoisotopic mass. It may be weak or absent when the radical cation fragments faster than it reaches the detector, so a candidate M+• must be checked for sensible losses and odd-electron consistency.
