Molecular Replacement
Phases are borrowed from a homologous structure by finding the orientation and position of that search model in the target unit cell, classically via rotation and translation functions on the Patterson map. It is now the dominant method because predicted models from AlphaFold-class predictors are accurate enough to work even without an experimental homologue.
