The layered compound EuMn2P2 orders antiferromagnetically on its Eu sublattice near 18 K, but a combination of electron spin resonance, NMR, and heat-capacity measurements reveals an additional weak magnetic ordering of the Mn subsystem near 47 K that dichroism probes miss. This concept covers how the sharp Eu2+ ESR line is used as a local probe of that weak, possibly frustrated, Mn magnetic background.
