Musculocutaneous Nerve Anatomy and Course in the Upper Limb

The musculocutaneous nerve is a terminal branch of the brachial plexus that innervates the three flexor muscles of the anterior arm compartment before terminating as a purely sensory branch, the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm — a dual motor-then-cutaneous course that explains its name. The cubital fossa is a triangular anatomical region bounded by defined muscular borders (brachioradialis laterally, pronator teres medially, an intercondylar line as its base) and a brachialis floor, containing a fixed medial-to-lateral arrangement of neurovascular and tendinous structures beneath its roof. The forearm flexor musculature is organized into superficial, intermediate, and deep layers, with innervation divided predominantly between the median and ulnar nerves according to a consistent anatomical pattern.
