Nanopore Sequencing: Reading Bases from Ionic Current

A single DNA strand is ratcheted through a protein pore and the k-mer occupying the pore modulates the ionic current; a neural basecaller maps the current squiggle back to bases. Read length is set by the input molecule, not the chemistry, which is why nanopore yields tens to hundreds of kilobases.
