Natural Deduction for Non-Referring Descriptions in Partial Type Theory
An approach to formal reasoning with non-denoting terms such as 'the King of France', framed not in free logic with sequent calculus but in a partial (Tichy-style) type theory using sequent-style natural deduction. With a Montague- and Tichy-style formalization of natural language, it handles inferences involving intensional transitive verbs whose complements are non-referring descriptions, and derives Strawsonian rules for the existential presuppositions such sentences carry.
