Negative Binomial Distribution

A discrete count distribution with mean and a separate dispersion parameter, so variance can exceed the mean. RNA-seq counts are over-dispersed relative to Poisson because of biological variability between replicates, so DESeq2 and edgeR fit this model per gene.
