Neutral Loss Fragmentation

The gap between two peaks equals the mass of an expelled neutral, and small characteristic gaps are functional-group diagnostics: 15 for methyl, 18 for water, 28 for CO or ethylene, 31 for methoxy, 45 for COOH. Reading differences rather than absolute m/z is usually faster than assigning every fragment.
