NMR Signal Integration
The area under a 1H signal is proportional to the number of chemically equivalent protons producing it, so integral ratios give relative proton counts per environment. Combined with the molecular formula, ratios are scaled to absolute counts (a 3:2:2 pattern in C4H8O2 might mean CH3:CH2:CH2 plus an unseen OH).
