Numerical Stroop: Physical Size and Numerical Magnitude Interfere

In the numerical Stroop task two digits differ in physical size and in numerical value, and participants judge one dimension while ignoring the other. Judgements are slower when the two dimensions disagree, such as a large 2 beside a small 8, and faster when they agree. The effect shows that numerical magnitude is processed automatically and that it shares a representation with physical size.
