Omnidirectional-UAV-Mounted RIS Deployment for Max-Min-Rate Wireless Coverage
Uses an omnidirectional multirotor aerial vehicle (o-MRAV), whose actuation decouples 3D orientation from 3D position, to carry a Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface and assist a terrestrial base station in serving obstructed users. Jointly optimizes the o-MRAV's orientation, location, and the RIS phase-shift configuration to maximize the minimum per-user data rate (max-min fairness), solving the nonconvex problem by smoothing the objective and applying Parallel Successive Convex Approximation. Reported gains over traditional under-actuated MRAVs: 28% minimum-rate and 14% average-rate improvement.
